Vol. 200 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Meath Migrants.

47.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of applications at present in the hands of the Land Commission for the transfer of holdings from tenants in congested areas in County Meath; the average length of such applications; the places where it is proposed to re-settle the proposed migrants; and the number of acres it is proposed to allot to them.

The official records are not kept in such form as to provide the precise information requested. Perhaps, however, it would meet the Deputy's requirements to know that, in the past five years, a total of 167 applications for migration were received from County Meath applicants and that, in the same period, 12 Meath landowners were allotted new holdings totalling 525 acres in exchange for an aggregate area of 352 acres.

Final decisions regarding migration each year depend on a number of factors including the circumstances of the various applicants, the suitability of their lands for use in effecting rearrangement and the number of new holdings available for disposal. It is not possible, therefore, to forecast the outcome of pending applications for migration including those by County Meath applicants.
