Vol. 200 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public and Private Enterprises: Profits and Incomes.

75.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of each of the years 1950 to 1961, as compiled for national income accounts purposes, (a) the profits of public and private companies, (b) the operating profits of public enterprises such as ESB, CIE, Central Bank, Bord na Móna, etc., (c) income from self-employment, and (d) professional earnings.

The profits of public and private companies in each of the years 1950 to 1961 are shown in the following table, together with the total of other profits in non-agricultural economic activity (including income from self-employment and professional earnings), excluding the income of the Post Office and Post Office Savings Bank. The method of compilation does not enable separate figures to be given for the profits of all public enterprises or for professional earnings. The other information requested by the Deputy is, therefore, not available.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of each of the years 1950 to 1961 the undistributed profits of public and private companies as compiled for national income accounts purposes, excluding the public enterprises such as ESB, CIE, Central Bank, Bord na Móna, etc.

The profits of all the public enterprises are not separately distinguished in the compilation of the profits of public and private companies for the national accounts. It is not possible, therefore, to furnish the information required by the Deputy.
