asked the Minister for Defence (a) the total number of members of the Defence Forces sent to the Congo at the request of the United Nations Organisation, (b) the numbers killed, and (c) the numbers wounded.

(a) The aggregate strength of contingents of the Defence Forces sent to the Congo to date is 4,905.

Allowing for those cases of personnel who have served more than once, the actual number of individual members of the Defence Forces who have served in the Congo up to the present is 3,922. In addition 12 Chaplains accompanied the contingents and of these, 4 served more than once; (b) the number killed is 22; (c) the number wounded is 45.
