Vol. 201 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disposal of Reactor Cattle in Kerry.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will consider extending the time for farmers in North Kerry to dispose of their reactor cows from the 30th September to the 30th November, in view of the loss of milk in which the earlier date would involve them.

I am not clear as to what the Deputy has in mind. In view of the dates mentioned in the question it seems he is referring to the system of clear herd bonus payments which operated last year. The extension referred to was in fact granted and enables all eligible herdowners to qualify for these payments. These dates have no other significance as far as the working of the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Scheme is concerned as it is now being operated in the South on the basis of compulsory clearance.

Question No. 20 postponed.
