Vol. 201 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Drinking Water Supply.

35.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the drinking water supply for the heavily populated area of Knockleha, Ballina, County Mayo, is polluted by sewerage contamination; and if he will instruct Mayo County Council to take immediate steps to erect a pump for the residents of that area, in accordance with a petition presented to the Mayo County Council fifteen months ago.

I understand from Mayo County Council that residents of the area are dependent on an unsatisfactory open source, and that plans are being formulated for a regional water supply which may include this area.

I am asking the Council to see whether anything can be done to provide a temporary water supply for the area pending a decision in regard to the proposed regional scheme.
