Vol. 201 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lanesboro (Roscommon) Lands.

46.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the present position in regard to the acquisition by the Land Commission of the lands of the late Mr. Patrick Donohue, Lanesboro, County Roscommon.

This estate was sold in three divisions to local purchasers last year. Proceedings were subsequently instituted by the Land Commission for acquisition of the lands and objections were lodged by the new owners. These objections were heard last month when two of them were allowed and a decision reserved in the third.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that the full details of the circumstances of the objectors and of those people who wanted to acquire the land were explained on the occasion of the hearing by the Land Commission court?

This is a matter of evidence given before a judicial tribunal and I cannot comment on it.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there is strong condemnation in this parish of the decision made in this instance and is he aware that the parish priest has stated on a number of occasions last week that perjury was committed before this court and that the land court did not carry out a proper investigation into the circumstances of the two people who were objectors? Will the Parliamentary Secretary take the necessary steps to have a public sworn inquiry into the whole matter?

It is no part of my function to inquire into allegations of perjury.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary, who is well aware of the facts of the case, not in a position to put this matter before the Attorney General so that the truth will be known?

There are channels of communication for doing that.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary, as a public representative for that constituency, take the necessary steps to bring the matter to the notice of the Attorney General?
