Vol. 201 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Bog Road Bridges.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to erect two bridges across the road leading to turf banks on Clonlyon bog, Clonaslee, Laois, in addition to repairing the road; if he is aware that there are many turf-cutters who cannot get to turf banks at present; and if he will deal with the matter as one of special urgency.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the following work for which a full-cost grant of £85 was sanctioned under bog development schemes last November:

Reconstruct culverts at points 75 and 77 perches and patch repair worst sections of bog road from the county road at Togher bridge west to Thomas Daly's turf bank.

Mainly due to unsuitable weather conditions, the work has not yet been put in hands but the county engineer hopes to have it carried out in the near future.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary undertake to have an officer of his Department telephone the county engineer's office so that the bridges may be built and Thomas Daly will have access to his turf bank with the least possible delay?
