Vol. 201 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway GPO Counter Privacy.

49.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will take steps to provide some form of protection on the counter of the GPO, Galway, and thereby ensure privacy and eliminate embarrassment for people having money transactions there.

A reasonable measure of privacy is secured at the money order-savings bank counter position in Galway Post Office by the special glazed screening arrangement at that position. This arrangement is considered adequate and no change is proposed.

Is the Minister not aware of the feeling people have and because of which they are not prepared to invest in the Post Office Savings Bank there while the present conditions obtain?

We have had no complaints.

From whom does the Minister expect to get complaints?

From the public.

On behalf of the public, I am now complaining.

The arrangements are regarded as satisfactory and compare favourably with those in banks and such places.

Will the Minister indicate what he means by "satisfactory" when the public have complained to me on several occasions? Will he have another look into the question?

I do not think so. I think the arrangements are all right.
