Vol. 201 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Shannon-London Air Service.

29.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he is aware that the present air service from Shannon to London is most inadequate, and compares very unfavourably with the service provided between Cork and London; and whether he will take steps to ensure that this service is improved, and that more frequent flights are provided.

Aer Lingus operates services in accordance with demand which, during the Winter season, is sufficient only to warrant three services weekly. Indeed, less than 50 per cent of the seats provided are filled during this period. The timings of the services are arranged to provide the best connections for the majority of the users. In the summer period, when there is a greater demand, seven passenger services weekly are provided. In addition, during the coming summer period there are expected to be at least three of four services weekly provided by other airlines on the route.
