With your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the estimated amount required at mid-February, 1938, to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as would £1 at mid-February in each of the years 1947, 1952, 1962 and 1963. The estimates are based on the retail price index numbers which are calculated in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November each year.
Following is the statement:
