Vol. 202 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry River Drainage.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the drainage works carried out by the Office of Public Works on the Grage River, as part of the Maine drainage scheme, have so affected a tributary of the Grage that the lands of several farmers, including Messrs. John Sheehan, Ned Keilliher and Ned T. Keilliher, in the district of White Gate, Keel, Castlemaine, County Kerry, now suffer from severe flooding, which did not occur before the drainage works were carried out; and if he will take immediate steps to have drainage works carried out to offset this adverse affect, and to eliminate this flooding.

I am advised that the drainage works carried out on the Grage river have not adversely affected the lands concerned, but on the contrary have provided an adequate outfall for drainage of the tributary referred to in the question. The improvement of the tributary, which is no more than a field drain, is a matter for the occupiers concerned.
