Vol. 203 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Mineral Deposits.

51.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his Department have any positive indication that there are valuable mineral deposits at Correagh, Ballin-togher, County Sligo, where the North Canada Mining Company have started boring.

The publications of the Geological Survey Office together with the geological maps and records, available for inspection at the Office of the Survey in Hume Street, Dublin, show that the townland of Correagh, County Sligo, contains occurrences of serpentine rock, magnetite nickel, asbestos and vermiculite. I have granted a prospecting licence in respect of this locality in order that exploratory work may be carried out which would indicate whether there are mineral deposits of an economic interest.
