65.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give particulars of the following in respect of the Road Fund: (1) grants paid to each local authority in 1962-63, showing what portion of such grant was in recoupment of grants allocated and expended by the relevant local authority in 1961-62, and (2) special grants paid to each local authority in 1962-63, with like information about carryover from the previous year.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.

NOTE 1: The Special Grants to County Councils include Grants for Tourist Roads, Bridges and Arterial Roads and grants for roads affected by recent Railway closures and by certain large scale industrial undertakings.

NOTE 2: Except in the case of Drogheda and Dundalk the Special Grants to Urban District Councils for 1962-63 were to compensate for the termination of the Estate Duties Grant as from 1/4/1962.

NOTE 3: The ordinary grant payments to Drogheda Corporation and Dundalk U.D.C. include Main Road Upkeep and Main Road Improvement grants as well as the Urban Road Grant. The £22,500 payment to Drogheda Corporation was on foot of a special grant.

NOTE 4: In the case of the authorities at C there were no payments in 1962-63 on foot of special grants allocated and expended in 1961-62.
