Vol. 203 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Adaptation.

30.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of concerns which have secured (a) grants and/or (b) loans for industrial readaptation, and the amounts paid in each case.

Grants for the purpose of enabling industry to adapt itself to free trade conditions are made available by An Foras Tionscal and loans for the same purpose are made by the Industrial Credit Company Limited. Both of these bodies publish annual reports and accounts giving details of their activities. Such reports and accounts are duly presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas. I do not think that information of the type sought by the Deputy should be given in advance of such presentation.

31.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the names of the industries which have set up adaptation councils.

Adaptation councils have so far been formed for six industries—linen, cotton and rayon, leather footwear, structural steel, iron foundries, paint, and hosiery. In addition, the Irish Paper Mills' Association which represents all the firms in the paper and paperboard industry, is performing the functions of an adaptation council.
