Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Weather Summaries.

27.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Transport and Power why the annual weather summaries for 1961 and 1962 are not yet published; and when they will be published and on sale.

The basic publication of past weather data is the monthly weather report. This publication is normally issued with a time-lag of two to three months and the reports relating to 1961 and 1962 are already published and on sale.

The annual weather summary gives some of the information already contained in the monthly reports, e.g., yearly averages, in a more condensed form for ease of reference but as the information contained in the summary may be deduced from the monthly reports, publication of the summary is not regarded as a matter of prime urgency and it has to take its place with other scientific publications, some of them of greater urgency, issued by the Meteorological Service. Publication of the Summary for 1961 may be expected early in September, 1963 and that for 1962 in December, 1963.
