Vol. 203 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order. Nos. 3, 11, 12 and 13 and in No. 13 Votes 37, 38, 40 and 49. It is proposed to interrupt business at 7 o'clock to take No. 13. The Dáil will meet tomorrow from 10.30 a.m. until 5 p.m. as on Thursdays. Questions will be taken at 2.30 p.m.

May I inquire why the Taoiseach has not implemented the promise that was made to circulate the Finance Bill before the end of May.

It will be available, I understand, this weekend.

Is the reason it is not readily available that the Government now realise, as they failed to realise at the beginning, the implications in the Budget proposals and must amend them?

The Deputy's comment is as foolish as I expected.

Would the Taoiseach say when it is intended to take the Finance Bill?

Next week.

You are going to take it next week?

We thought you were in a hurry.

Is it seriously suggested that you are going to introduce this Bill tomorrow morning, circulate it on Friday night, and ask the House to debate it on Tuesday?

You are daft. We shall debate your record on any Bill and beat you, I hope, but it is gross abuse of procedure. We are quite prepared to leave it to the vote.

If you do not want to take it——

We shall draft out our amendment——

(Interruptions.)

I do not think the Taoiseach should commit himself to having the Bill taken next week.

It will be ordered for next week. The Second Reading debate usually covers wider aspects than the details of the Bill so that I think it could be appropriately taken next week.
