Vol. 203 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Game Eggs.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what licences have been issued for the importation of game eggs during each of the last four financial years, specifying the name and address of the licensee, the amount of the licence, and the qualifications of such licensee to deal with the matter; and what applications, if any, for such licences have been refused, specifying similar information.

Only one licence for the importation of game birds' eggs from abroad has been granted in the four year period referred to. This licence for the importation of 600 pheasant eggs from Britain was granted after consultation with the Minister for Lands who is concerned with the question of game preservation and restocking. All the veterinary safeguards prescribed by my Department were fully complied with in this case.

The Minister does not say in his reply what applications, if any, had been refused.

There were several applications. There were two at least granted on previous occasions that did not, in fact, materialise, for one reason or another.

Does the Minister feel himself restricted from furnishing the information requested in the question as to "the name and address of the licensee, the amount of the licence, the qualifications of such licensee to deal with the matter"?

I could give a list of all the people who were refused over the years.

These matters are set out in the context of the question on the Order Paper.

If a long list is required, there will be no difficulty in giving it.

I should be very much obliged if the Minister would do so.
