Vol. 203 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonmel Cottage.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the local authority have failed to build a cottage for Mr. Edmond Heffernan, Crean, Newcastle, Clonmel, County Tipperary; if he is aware that this man was informed some seven or eight years ago that a cottage would be erected for him in the near future, and that his present dwelling is dangerous to human life, and may fall at any time; and if he will take immediate steps to require the local authority to provide him with a pre-fabricated house, and thereby avoid a possible tragedy.

The assessment of housing needs, the initiation of proposals to meet them and the taking of appropriate action in relation to unfit dwellings and dangerous structures are matters for the local authority.

I am not usually in a position to answer questions about the housing needs of individual persons, but I understand that proposals before my Department for the erection of cottages by Tipperary (SR) County Council do not include one for the person named.
