Vol. 203 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Telephones.

53.

Mr. Donnellan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of telephones serving the townlands of (a) Killeeneen Beg, Killeeneen More, Caherfurvaus, Caheradine and Shanbally in the electoral division of Killeely, (b) Carrigeen in the electoral division of Rahasane and (c) Rathbane and Coxtown in the electoral division of Shekanagh, County Galway.

There are no subscriber lines in any of the townlands in question. Public telephones are available in post offices at Ardrahan and Craughwell which serve these areas.

Mr. Donnellan

Would the Minister say during what time does the telephone operate in Ardrahan? What are the hours?

I have not got the times here.

Mr. Donnellan

I have. The telephone closes down at 10 o'clock and in the areas I have mentioned, people have to walk 12 miles to get a doctor.

My information is that there are only 70 houses in the townland——

Mr. Donnellan

If there were only seven, that does not matter.

——and there are call offices in the two post offices I have mentioned.
