Vol. 203 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vegetable Exports to Britain.

8.

andMr. T. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Agriculture what steps he has taken to encourage the production and export of fresh vegetables to Britain, with particular reference to the container service now available at certain East coast ports.

The policy of my Department is to increase the production of fresh vegetables by affording the grower protection, either by way of customs duty or quantitative import restrictions, when the home crop is being marketed.

Where growers desire to export their produce the advice and assistance of the technical officers of my Department and the advisory officers of the County Committees of Agriculture has been given to them.
