Vol. 203 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Garda Patrol Cars.

11.

asked the Minister for Justice when it is proposed to provide radio equipment for Garda patrol cars in Galway.

This has already been done.

Can the Minister indicate why it was done in the past few days? Was it for the Presidential visit or otherwise? Will the Minister indicate what amount of equipment will be provided?

I have indicated that the equipment has already been provided.

What amount?

There is a central unit and two patrol cars are equipped with radio.

May I take it that if it were not for the Presidential visit, it would not have been provided for another year?

The Deputy may take nothing of the sort. This communication system was installed as part of the normal expansion of the system by the Garda, in the ordinary way.

Can the Minister indicate when it was provided?

It was provided a considerable time before the Deputy put down the question.

It was not, because I, too, am in communication with the Garda.

The equipment was provided on 7th June.

That is not a long time ago.

The Dáil adjourned at 2.20 p.m. until 4 o'clock on Friday, 28th June, 1963.
