Vol. 204 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 2, 8, 6, 9 and 10. Questions will be taken at 2.30 p.m. I understand that there is agreement to take the other Stages of No. 1 later in the day. The Bill will be circulated in the course of an hour or so.

It was agreed to take the Second Stage. What happens about the other Stages will depend on what transpires on the Second Reading.

Yesterday, the Taoiseach said he would be in a position to let the Dáil know this morning the arrangements for the remainder of the session. Could we have an indication of them now?

I cannot quite do that but this is as far as agreement has been reached. It has been agreed to take the Finance Bill on Tuesday next when the House will meet from 3 to 10.30 p.m., Sections 1 to 39, inclusive, and any amendments thereto. On Wednesday, 10th July, the House will meet from 10.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. All sections up to Section 44 inclusive and amendments thereto are to be disposed of by 12 noon. Sections 45 and 46 with amendments thereto will be disposed of by 8 p.m. and Sections 47 to 65 and amendments thereto are to be disposed of by 10.30 p.m. On Thursday, 11th July, the House will sit from 10.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. to take the remaining sections of the Finance Bill in Committee. On Tuesday, 16th July, the House will meet at 3 p.m. until 10.30 p.m. to take the Finance Bill on Report Stage and amendments thereto. On Wednesday, 17th July, it has been agreed to take the Finance Bill on the Fifth Stage, the motion to be put at 10.30 p.m. No business will be taken on these days except the Finance Bill, except if the Finance Bill should end prior to 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 9th July, other business may be taken thereafter until 10.30 p.m.

It is intended that the Dáil should adjourn on Friday, 19th July, for the summer recess, but I am not in a position to inform the House as to the business or hours of sitting for Thursday, 18th, and Friday, 19th.

May we take it that before a decision is made on the Adjournment, the Taoiseach will move a motion to that effect in the House?

I am not in a position to announce the business for the final two days.

But the Dáil will be notified by the Taoiseach next week, I presume, about the final arrangements that have been discussed by the Whips?

I hope I shall be able to announce agreement.

That depends on the Government. The method by which they have not told the House until the last minute of certain business they require does not facilitate the working of the House, to put it mildly.

It takes at least two to make an agreement.

In this case, it takes three.

It takes two sides to make an agreement and the Taoiseach would be well advised to impress that on his colleagues down the row so that they will pass it on.

Discussions between the Whips should be regarded as confidential.

Not at all.

That is ridiculous.

The Tánaiste should stay out of it.

The Deputy should go back to his four in Waterford.

We will not reach agreement like this.

I notice you do not repress the Tánaiste when he misbehaves——

(Interruptions.)
