Vol. 204 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exports to Finland.

26.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been drawn to a reference to the attitude of the Finnish people to Irish whiskey; and whether he is in a position to alter to this country's advantage the present trading position with that country by ensuring that fairer treatment for Irish products, including whiskey, is adopted by the Finnish Government.

27.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce why Irish whiskey blended in London is the only Irish whiskey available in Finland; and whether pure potstill unblended Irish whiskey has been or will be made available for sale there.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 26 and 27 together. I am informed that Irish whiskey, which is on sale in Finland, was blended in Ireland.

The development of external markets for Irish products, including whiskey, is primarily a matter for our export industries, and Coras Tráchtála will provide all possible assistance to firms which are interested in finding export outlets for their products in Finland.
