Vol. 204 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Negotiations with Medical Profession.

5.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Health which of the two bodies now representing the medical profession and possessing negotiating licences for such purpose he intends should negotiate with his Department in the various matters outstanding regarding staffing, employment and other conditions of members of the medical profession in the Republic.

I have not the wide functions visualised in the latter part of the question. I have no functions whatsoever in regard to the conditions of service of a very large sector of the medical profession and even in regard to those members of the profession in respect of whom I have functions, many of my functions are secondary to those of the health authorities.

As to the main point of the question, I shall determine it when the need arises.
