Vol. 204 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Delivery of Letters.

30.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received a complaint from the Dublin Master Victuallers' Association regarding the failure of the post office to deliver letters posted to Dublin victuallers in St. Andrew Street, Dublin, at 5 p.m. on Monday 1st July until the evening of Wednesday 3rd July; if he is aware that the letters advised members of the Association about arrangements for the protest march against the sales tax held by the distributive trade in Dublin on 3rd July; and that, as a result of the failure to deliver the letters in time, Dublin victuallers were deprived of an opportunity to protest against the sales tax; and why it took two days to deliver these letters, having regard to the fact that normal delivery should have been effected on the morning of Tuesday 2nd July.

The answer to the first part of the question is "Yes". It has not so far been possible to establish the cause of the delay but I am having the matter further investigated and will communicate the result to the Deputy.
