Vol. 204 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC: Austrian Commercial Treaty.

1.

asked the Taoiseach whether he is aware that an application has been made by Austria to the European Economic Community for the negotiation of a commercial treaty between that country and the Community; and if he considers it advisable that a similar application should be made by Ireland.

The position, I understand, is that, at the request of the Austrian Government, the application made by Austria in December, 1961, for association with the European Economic Community under Article 238 of the Rome Treaty is at present under examination by the Community. In the circumstances, the second part of the question does not appear to arise.
