I am informed by the Tipperary (NR) health authority that there is no delay in supplying dentures to eligible persons in this area and that the waiting period is that recommended by the health authority's dental staff as desirable following extractions.
Earlier this year there was an average delay of approximately two months in supplying spectacles to patients examined at ophthalmic clinics. I had this matter taken up with the health authority and I understand that the contractor for spectacles has undertaken to have spectacles supplied promptly in all normal cases in future. The position is being kept under review.
Is the Minister not aware that up to this week there was a waiting period of over three months for dental treatment and specialist treatment in North Tipperary?
I am advised that from the professional point of view, it is not unusual to recommend a three months waiting period before dentures are fitted.
Is the Minister not aware that quite recently he sent me a letter and told me that in fact there was such a delay in North Tipperary but that he would rectify the matter and see that things were expedited?
The Deputy was referring in that matter to spectacles. Yes, I did deplore the delays and I did take steps to expedite the provision of spectacles for persons who require them.
Is the Minister satisfied with conditions all over the country?
