Vol. 204 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Double Taxation Agreement with Germany.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that the double taxation agreement between this country and the Federal Republic of Germany is satisfactory to both contracting parties; and if he will take steps to amend the agreement at the earliest possible moment.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Is the Minister aware that in County Wexford recently a German industrialist withdrew the offer of an industry there because this agreement was not financially satisfactory to the firm concerned?

That is right.

Surely it is not a satisfactory agreement if an industrialist withdraws his offer?

Does the Deputy suggest that we could make an agreement to suit every individual?

Surely it could have been revised? It must have been unsuitable if the industrialist withdrew the offer. The result is that Wexford has lost an industry.

I did not propose to revise it to suit one individual.
