Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Six Counties Veto on Dublin-Produced Goods.

9.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been drawn to a report of a meeting at Dungannon at which the proposed purchase of pipes was vetoed because the goods were produced at Balbriggan, County Dublin; and if he will state the attitude of the Government towards such "Boycott Irish" tactics employed in the Six Counties.

I have seen the report in question, but I do not consider that there is any action which can usefully be taken in the matter at the present time.

What about the "dialogue"?

Would the Minister not consider that he should at least deprecate this attitude by people in the North? Has he no opinions?

The Deputy will appreciate that contracts placed by central or local government authorities in many countries, including this one, stipulate a preference for local materials.
