Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Road Grants.

47.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount by which the grant for county roads in County Dublin has been reduced in the present year.

County road improvement grants generally were reviewed in the light of the very great progress made in recent years in the programme for the provision of dust-free surfaces on county roads. Where the programme had been completed, as in County Dublin, the grant was discontinued this year. The amount allocated last year to Dublin County Council for county road improvements was £43,100 but the Council transferred all but £1,000 of this amount to main roads. As the Deputy is aware, I have urged the road authority to proceed with all possible expedition with the much needed improvement of the major traffic routes in Dublin county and I have given them an assurance that the necessary funds will be provided for the purpose.
