Vol. 205 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Telephone Applications.

36.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in respect of each telephone exchange area in Dublin the number of applications for telephones which cannot be met until new underground cables are provided; and when such will be provided.

I regret that the information requested is not readily available and could not be obtained without very considerable expenditure of engineering staff time.

The great majority of deferred applications are for non-priority cases. When such applications are received, they are recorded on the waiting list for the district concerned, but a detailed survey of the work necessary in order to clear them is not made until a general clearance of the area can be undertaken. It would not be possible to say, in advance of such a survey, whether attention to particular applications is dependent on the position regarding underground cables or on other factors.
