Vol. 205 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Legal Diary.

24.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the manner in which the current contract for the publication of the Legal Diary was made; and in particular whether it was made as a result of inviting tenders through the public press, or otherwise.

The current arrangements for the publication of the Legal Diary were made by my Department in consultation with the Incorporated Law Society and in this matter the Department acted on behalf of and with the consent of the Judges of the Supreme and High Courts, the Bar Council and the Stationery Office. Tenders were not sought by public advertisement. Inquiries were made of 20 printing firms, two tenders were received and the final arrangements were entered into on the advice of the Stationery Office.

25.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that on Friday morning last, 25th October, several solicitors failed to receive a copy of the Legal Diary; and if, having regard to the growing frequency of failures in the delivery of the Diary, thereby causing serious inconvenience and disruption of business, he will have effective steps taken without delay to ensure prompt and direct notification to the legal profession of the daily state of the court lists in Dublin.

I am not aware of the matters referred to in the question, nor have I received any other complaint of non-delivery of copies of the Legal Diary.

It seems to me that occurrences of this nature are matters which the individual subscribers might raise with the publishers either direct or through one of the professional bodies which are concerned in the arrangements relating to the Legal Diary.
