Vol. 205 No. 5

Business of Dáil.

In regard to the business of the House, would the Taoiseach say if it is intended to proceed with the Estimates next week and in the order we have them on the Order Paper or whether it is intended to take any of the legislation listed?

I think we will have to start in on some of the legislation listed. The discussion on the Local Government Estimate has taken much longer than we assumed and if all the Estimates were to take the same amount of time, there would be nothing else done in this session. While it is undoubtedly desirable to have the token Estimates out of the way, it would also be desirable at this stage of the session to get some of the Bills beyond the Second Reading Stage so that the Committee Stages can be taken later.

Is it intended to take any of the Bills next week?

I think so, but I cannot tell the Deputy yet what Bills, because I have to discuss the matter with the Ministers concerned.

We will know by next week?

I think so. I shall arrange with the Whips.
