Vol. 205 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Christmas Social Welfare Payments.

50.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if old age pensioners will be paid a double week's pension at Christmas, 1963.

51.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give an increase during the coming Christmas to old age pensioners, widows and other social welfare beneficiaries.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together. Increases were granted to recipients of non-contributory social welfare payments as from the 1st of this month and increases to those in receipt of contributory benefits are being granted as from the beginning of January, 1964.

It is not proposed to introduce legislation for the purpose of making an isolated payment at Christmas.
