Vol. 205 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Boat Purchases Abroad.

51.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of boats, similar to those built in Irish boatyards, purchased by State grants or loans in Scottish, English and other foreign markets; the total amount of (a) grants and (b) loans given; and the rate of interest charged on loans.

As indicated in the Government's Programme of Sea Fisheries Development published in April, 1962, hire purchase facilities, including interest at 4 per cent, are available for second-hand boats which An Bord Iascaigh Mhara consider suitable and reasonably priced. Since then ten second-hand boats—all larger than those built in Irish boatyards—have been purchased abroad with the aid of advances totalling £63,141 and no capital grants have been made for boats purchased abroad.
