Vol. 205 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Woollen and Worsted Piece Goods.

7.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the proposed increase of 10 per cent of the duty-free import quota as applied to woollen and worsted piece goods is likely to have an adverse effect on employment in woollen mills throughout the country; and whether he will now cancel this increase in the quota.

I shall be having consultations in regard to this matter in the near future with the woollen mills and the other trade interests affected. In deciding whether there should be an enlargement of the woollen and worsted quota, I shall have regard to the views expressed on behalf of the trade interests concerned and also to the general considerations of policy which arise in this matter.
