Vol. 205 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Restricted Licences Conversion Fund.

49.

asked the Minister for Justice for what purpose it is proposed to use the Restricted Licences Conversion Fund and when it is intended to seek the approval of the Oireachtas for any such proposals.

When this fund was established in 1960, the Government indicated that they hoped to propose to the Oireachtas that it should be used to purchase and extinguish redundant licences, if it amounted to a worthwhile sum.

I am considering this matter at present but have not so far been able to devise any scheme that I could recommend to the Government and the Oireachtas whereby the amount in the fund, namely, £145,000, could be used for the purchase of licences with commensurate benefit to the public and the licensed trade as a whole.
