Vol. 205 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Wandering Horses.

51.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the number of occasions within the last year on which the Gardaí hired a motorised horse box from CIE for the purpose of rounding up stray horses in Dublin city, and the cost of so doing.

In the year ended 31st October, 1963, the number of such occasions was two and the cost involved, which was recouped from the owners of the animals, was £6 19.0.

Mr. Ryan

Having regard to the fact that the average number of wandering horses collected per night is one-third of a horse and that there are about 100 horses wandering each night, would the Minister endeavour to have a more efficient posse to collect them?

At the present time the report of the Commission on Itinerancy, which deals inter alia with this matter, is being considered by the various Government Departments. When that examination is concluded, some solution to this problem may emerge.

Mr. Ryan

Have you consulted the horses?

I often talk to horses.

But they never tell you anything.

I have often given a good tip to Deputy Lynch.
