NOTE:
(1) The statement is in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1963. It contains the net revenue expenditure of the health authorities under the four headings indicated, the amount of grants made from the Hospitals Trust Fund towards capital projects and the payments made by health authorities for capital projects.
(2) The revenue expenditure is based on the latest available figures in my Department. Some of these figures are subject to adjustment in the course of preparation of accounts in final form.
(3) The expenditures of health authorities on recognised health services qualify for health grant recoupment from the Vote for the Department of Health to the extent of 50%.
(4) In addition to the figures shown in the table, payments amounting to £2,235,900 were made from the Hospitals Trust Fund to voluntary hospitals on capital or revenue (deficit) account. It is not possible to allocate to particular health authorities the relief to their finances which these payments afforded.
18.
(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Health the amount paid under Section 25 of the Health Act, 1953 by the various public health authorities since the passing of that Act.
Payments made in meeting claims under Section 25 of the Health Act, 1953 are not recorded separately in the accounts of health authorities and the compilation of the information would involve an amount of work and expense which I consider would not be justified.
19.
(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Health the total institutional (hospital) expenditure by the State (central, local, sweepstake, etc.) for the last financial year.
The expenditure in the year ended 31st March, 1963, as stated in the accounts of local authorities and of other bodies concerned supplied to my Department was £17,256,000. Some of these accounts are still subject to adjustment in the course of preparation in final form.
The figure includes the revenue cost of all institutions conducted by health authorities and mental health authorities, the expenditure on capital works in those institutions met either from the funds of the authorities concerned or from grants from the Hospitals Trust Fund, payments made by health authorities for the maintenance and treatment of patients in extern institutions, grants from the Hospitals Trust Fund towards capital works carried out by public voluntary hospitals and grants towards the revenue deficits of such hospitals.
20.
(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Health the total institutional (hospital) receipts for the last financial year.
It is presumed that the information requested by the Deputy is the total receipts by health authorities in respect of patients who were maintained in their own hospitals or who were sent, or were deemed to have been sent, to extern hospitals, county homes and similar types of institutions being excluded.
On that basis, the total for the year ended 31st March, 1963, as notified to my Department by health authorities, was £1,074,000. The figure is subject to adjustment in the course of preparation and audit of final accounts.
