Vol. 205 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants to Portumna (Galway) Industry.

58.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) how many grants he has given to Tipping Gears Limited and Combiners Limited, Portumna, County Galway; (b) the total amount of these grants; and (c) the number of persons employed in this industry.

59.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared to give a grant in the future to Combiners Limited, Portumna, County Galway.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 59 together.

I would refer the Deputy to the published reports of An Foras Tionscal for particulars of the grants made to Tipping Gears Ltd. and Combiners Ltd. As regards employment figures, I do not consider it desirable that a private commercial concern should be asked for such information for publication.

The question as to whether a grant would be made in the future to Combiners Ltd. would depend on the merits of any proposal which the company might make to An Foras Tionscal, which is an autonomous body.

Is it not a fact that this is one of the factories the Minister opened and then closed again?

I neither opened nor closed that factory.

The Minister closed it.

I neither opened nor closed the factory.
