Vol. 205 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Social Welfare Offices.

26.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare what steps are at present contemplated by his Department in regard to the closing of local offices in South Tipperary; and what alternative arrangements are being made in each case where it is proposed to close a local office.

I assume that the Deputy's question relates to the closing of some social welfare officer stations in South Tipperary which became necessary arising out of the reorganisation of the work of the outdoor staff of my Department. These stations were closed from the 1st October, 1963, and the closing of further stations is not contemplated. I explained the circumstances giving rise to the closing of a number of Social Welfare officer stations in a reply on 24th October, 1963, to a question by Deputy Hogan O'Higgins, and I would refer the Deputy to that reply.

Would the Minister be good enough to indicate the employment exchanges which are being closed or about to be closed, if he has the information available?

We are closing Cashel and Carrick-on-Suir social welfare stations but no employment exchanges.

Are they any others contemplated?

I do not think so. There are still two in Clonmel, one in Tipperary. One in Cashel and two in Carrick-on-Suir have been closed.
