Vol. 205 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Tonsils Extractions.

3.

asked the Minister for Health the number of children now awaiting tonsil extraction under the school medical scheme in County Wexford; and the number of such children who have been awaiting this operation for (a) under three months, (b) three to six months, (c) six to nine months, (d) nine to twelve months, and (e) over twelve months.

In County Wexford at present, there are 16 children who have been recommended for tonsil extraction as a result of school health examination.

I am advised that seven of these will undergo operation within the next week, and a further four in less than a month's time. In the balance of five cases, an operation has been deferred until the children have completed a series of polio injections.

All 16 children have been awaiting operation, or a final decision thereon, for less than three months.

There is a vast improvement, therefore, there?

Yes. When the Deputy calls my attention to anything that requires improvement, it is immediately looked after.

Very proper. The Minister cannot even take a compliment now, he is so anxious to fight with me.
