Vol. 206 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Telephone Delays.

39.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why persons dialling telephone numbers in the Dublin district frequently get dialling tone after the first, second or third digit and are unable to make contact except by phoning the supervisor; and if he will have steps taken to prevent such delays happening in future.

Difficulties of the kind mentioned by the Deputy could be caused by some failure in the automatic exchange equipment. The incidence of complaint does not indicate that they are frequently experienced.

The equipment is checked and tested regularly for the purpose of maintaining it in proper order and rectifying any faults discovered.
