Vol. 206 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Location of Regional Technical Colleges.

18.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has yet decided on the location of contemplated regional technical colleges; and if he has fully considered the claims of Sligo as a suitable centre in the North-West for such a college, having regard to the implications contained in the statement he made in the recent past regarding formation of comprehensive schools.

I hope to be able to announce shortly the locations for the proposed new regional technical colleges. The claims of Sligo, as of all other centres, are receiving the fullest consideration in that regard.

Would the Minister state if Sligo is being considered as one of those?

The Deputy must not have heard my reply. The last sentence of my reply reads "The claims of Sligo, as of all other centres, are receiving the fullest consideration in that regard."

Would the Minister say when we may get some precise information in the matter ?

There must be some lack of communication between the Deputy and myself. I have said that I hope to be able to announce shortly the locations for the proposed new regional technical colleges.

Could the Minister tell me how many it is proposed to establish ?

The whole country will have to be considered on a regional basis.

There is no firm figure?

Not as yet.
