asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has considered the application of Cavan County Council for an increase in the rate of subsidy for waterworks and sewerage schemes; and, if so, what decision has been reached in the matter.

I have decided in consultation with the Minister for Finance that the higher rate of subsidy, amounting to 60 per cent of loan charges, will be applied as from 1st November, 1963, to sanitary services schemes carried out by Cavan and Monaghan County Councils where such schemes form part of general sanitary services programmes calculated to meet the reasonable needs of the county health districts. The higher rate of subsidy will also be allowed for future schemes undertaken by Longford County Council which has already adopted such a programme.
