Vol. 207 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing of Families in Dublin Barracks.

24.

Dr. Browne

andMr. S. Dunne asked the Minister for Health the total number of families in Griffith Barracks, Dublin, the total number of children, the total number of adults and the total number of days spent by (a) adults and (b) children in hospital since the Barracks were first occupied by the present occupants; and when it is estimated that proper alternative family-type housing will be available for the present occupants.

On Friday night last, 24th/25th January, there were ten women with children and 14 women unaccompanied by children in the accommodation used by the health authority in Griffith Barracks. The number of children there that night was nineteen.

Three of the adults spent a total of 27 days in hospital since they were first admitted to the barracks. Of the three, two were in a maternity department where they spent 19 days.

Five children of mothers in the barracks on Friday night had, up to then, spent a total of 123 days in hospital.

The provision of permanent housing accommodation for persons in Griffith Barracks who want such accommodation is a matter for the relevant housing authority.
