Vol. 207 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Pensioners.

34.

asked the Minister for Finance (1) the total number of civil servants who retired under Article 10 of the Anglo-Irish Treaty now resident in the Republic; (2) the total annual amount of pension disbursements paid to them from (a) the Central Fund of the Republic and (b) the British Treasury by way of ex gratia augmentations; and (3) if he will sympathetically consider making a reciprocal arrangement with the British Treasury whereby future fluctuations or adjustments in pensions would automatically apply to these people so as to keep them in step with their counterparts here.

The answers to parts one and two of the question are as follows:— (1) The total number of former civil servants resident in the Republic and in receipt of compensation under Article X of the Treaty is 220. (2) The annual amount of compensation paid out of moneys voted by Dáil Éireann is £25,100 and the annual amount paid by the British Government by way of ex gratia supplements is £15,300.

The answer to part three of the question is in the negative.
