Vol. 207 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of CIE Employees.

61.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will arrange that, where in the course of the rationalisation of Córas Iompair Éireann's activities an employee of long standing is transferred to another station far away from his home, that employee will be given the option of retiring on compensation rather than accepting this unsatisfactory transfer.

I am informed by CIE that railway employees are, in accordance with their conditions of service, subject to transfer throughout the system except in the case of footplate grades, where transfers are confined to specified areas. An employee who becomes available for transfer in the course of the rationalisation of the Boards' activities and for whom a vacancy exists elsewhere in the undertaking is not redundant and does not qualify for redundancy compensation under the Transport Acts except in so far as he may become entitled to lump sum compensation where the transfer involves a worsening of his conditions of employment.
