Vol. 207 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Income.

8.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the basis on which statistics are compiled in respect of tourist income; and if he will give full details of the system operated.

A full description of the method of estimation of the country's earnings from tourism and travel and the corresponding expenditure outside the country by Irish residents is given in the article "Numbers and Expenditure of Visitors to Ireland and of Irish Visitors Abroad —Methods of estimation used in Annual Inquiries", published in the December, 1959, issue of the Irish Trade Journal and Statistical Bulletin, to which I would refer the Deputy.

9.

asked the Taoiseach the total amount of money spent abroad by Irish people during 1963, and the receipts from tourism in this country.

The information requested by the Deputy is not yet available.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary indicate when that information will be made available?

It will be available in the publication Economic Statistics prior to the Budget.
