Vol. 207 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonmel Water Supply.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state fully the causes of the delay in the sanctioning of the Clonmel Borough piped water supply.

There has been no delay in sanctioning the scheme. Final contract documents, forwarded to my Department on 17th April, 1963, were sanctioned on 13th May. Tenders, submitted on 4th September, 1963, were sanctioned on 16th September. Work could not be started, however, until the compulsory acquisition of the necessary lands and rights had been completed. Difficulties arose because of the inclusion in the scope of the Order of State lands, which were held under various titles by the Department of Lands. These difficulties were not resolved until 29th November, 1963, when the Corporation confirmed their acceptance of the terms on which the Department of Lands were prepared to dispose of these lands. The Order was confirmed on 30th January, 1964.
